Longest Post Ever!

Life has been a little crazy so I thought I would make this my longest post ever and update on a couple things.

Grace Updates

Grace is talking up a storm and has added a ton of new words to her growing vocabulary! Some new words she now says are tree, nana (banana), dog, and nuh night. She is also really good at signing, she does eat, drink, please, thank you, and more. The basics which is just perfect! She is also in love with making animal sounds, she has a couple down really good, like cow and sheep, but is still working on the rest.

She is becoming quite the daredevil, climbing on everything in her site. She has acquired quite a few injuries doing this but is learning from experience per Pat. She also loves her new tricycle that we bought this weekend for a steal from Target. Between her tricycle and wagon we took about 5 walks today!

She loves her puppies so much that she wants to be near them ALL THE TIME! Poor Izzy and Lily, they are still getting used to this, but Izzy does love when she pets her. She does yell at them when they are barking, "Quiet, Izzy Lily!" and points her finger at them. I can't imagine where she gets this from??

One downside to her growing older is temper tantrums and being more independent (nice way of saying not listening). She doesn't throw a lot of them but when she does, watch out! As for not listening, the worst lately is hitting people when she is frustrated. We are trying to be patient with this and are working on it together as a family. Pat and I like to joke around, punch each other in the arm or push each other when we are joking around, and are trying to be better about this. Hard to explain to a 16 month old that she should do as we say, not as we do, so we are also trying to be more aware of our actions.

Overall, she is oh course an amazing little girl who brings so much laughter and joy to this household. I swear Pat and I have laughed more this summer then we did the whole first year of her life- definitely a big difference!

Work Updates

As some of you know, I am currently working in a job share position in the housing office at GVSU. I had a great friend of mine who was job sharing with me, but a great opportunity came her way and I am now searching for a new person to job share with! I am excited for my friend but very sad about her leaving and nervous about who will be hired.

Work is also very hectic and busy right now with Fall semester move in this week, so we have put off hiring a new person until at least September. This means a little extra work for me on weekends and working every Wednesday instead of every other, which is not a huge change but is a change. The extra money is nice but it will definitely be nice to be back to normal once we hire the new staff member.

Also, I have switched my days from Wed, Thurs, and Friday to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday! I am very excited about this new change, this means I will attend more meetings and be able to have a voice in the office. It also means end of the week at home with Grace which I am very excited about!

Pat is doing great at work, no huge changes, he received a nice raise for all of his hard work this year and I am very proud of him. He has a week work trip in September in California and we will miss him!

School Updates

I know, I know, we have a little while till Grace starts school, but Pat and I are both going back this Fall! We are both excited but nervous about taking on classes, schoolwork, and professors once again, but know we are up to the challenge! Pat is taking online courses through Wayne State for Library Science and I will be going to GVSU for the CSAL Program (College of Student Affairs Leadership)

Pat will be done in two years and me a little longer but I am just proud we are both going back. I am finally going to take advantage of the free education that is part of my work contract and it feels good! We will be paying for Pat's new degree (GVSU does not offer a library science program) but it will pay for itself over the years, we are sure of this.

So wish us luck, we have our pencils sharpened, trapper keepers ready, and lots of paper to take notes. Oh, wait, I guess all we really need is a laptop, right? The world has definitely changed since I went to school!!!

Well, I guess I am done for tonight. No pictures, just lots of boring writing! I will definitely post some pictures tomorrow night.

Instead of writing a long blog, you should consider responding to some of your emails.

Avery started saying "nana" for banana too! Isn't it the cutest? Way to go Grace on the signing!! It makes things a little easier, huh?
